Here is the place to talk about all those equipment(Telescope, Mounts, Eyepieces, etc...) you have. Not sure which scope/eyepiece is best for you? Trash it out here!
the guy told me that buying the vertical locking screw will fix this problem.
Wat is the clutch thing ? He say he broke the vertical locking screw by tighting it too tight.
Anyway. I be visiting him soon. he told me to take a look at the thread too. I calling him tonight.
the etx uses a clutch system to lock the ota. this means that if you accidently force the ota to move when locked, at least there is some slippage to fall back on...but if you tightened the lock too much, you break the screw.
make sure the guy fixes this before you buy from them as it can be troublesome to fix yourself. else check out yahoo singapore auctions. there's an ETX70 being sold there...

I just brought the scope from him, he assured me that getting the vertical lock screw will fix the problem, else i can refund 100%, he is an working adult and is a professional engineer
I'm sure he will keep his word.
Well, now that you mention it using the Autostar to move the scope at really slow speed the motor like to "stop-go-stop" when i pressing the arrows. with beeping sound from the internal base (a bit nosiy). Using a 6mm (58x power) eyepiece i can't really tell if the scope moves at all !
Hi Kelvin,
The ETX60 would probably be simpler in design but I guess there will be similarities with the ETX Maks for economic reasons.
Here's a link on an ETX that has been disassembled. I think the screw you mentioned that is broken is the one protruding from the locking plate?
But now, since i using 9v battery pack that uses 6 (1.5v AA) size battery, pls advise if i can just use a 9v (those squared) battery or even a AC-DC coverter. I a engineering student and i can get 9v out of my power supply, but wat about the current ?
The current through a device is = Voltage / Resistance. ie as long as u have a 9V supply, the current will be determined solely by the circuit's resistance. Wether u get the 9V from a battery or through an ac/dc adaptor is of no consequence.
Hi,
I don't recommed you to use those 9v square battery, becuase their capacity normally are very low. As a result, the battery can drain out quite fast.
Have a nice day.

Hi,
Why don't you try using 'AA' size NIMH rechargeable battery. It have quite high capacity and can charge quickly and safely.
Although one'AA' size NIMH rechargeable battery is rated only 1.2V, but it will normally reach 1.3V - 1.4V when fully charge. Try out using 6 'AA' size NIMH batteries first to power your ETX. If it can't power up, then try 7 batteries.
By the way, I power my Vixen Dual Axis drive using 8 1800mA 'AA' size NIMH batteries and it can last me 3 to 4 hours depend on usage.
Have a nice day.

tks, oh the guy KL reply to me, saying they don't distribute the ETX60 become, but sell the EXT70 instead, so they going to ship the ETX70's Vertical Locking Screw to me instead. Anyone have an idea ? I heard that the ETX70 and ETX60 are the twin brothers except the lens size. so i guess the screw should be able to fix into my ETX60.

Do you mean Dr Looi, the Meade dealer from KL?
well, if he says it can work, I guess you have to believe him.
is he giving you this free? else how much is he charging you for it?
cheers
