I've been very impressed by the latest Stellarvue offerings. I had a look through their SV5 and was surprised to see it perform as well if not better then my NP127is and its soooo much cheaper!!

Yes, the NP is f5.2 while the SV5 is f7 but I don't really need the speed. And the difference in FOV is nothing a Televue hand grenade (aka 41 Pano) can't fix.

Besides, the focus system TV has really sucks (1 of the main reasons I sold my NP127is). With the SV line, I get to use FTs which I love and already have all the neccessary motor adapters to get motorized focusing. And for visual use, nothing even comes close!!

Next time I go back, I'll bring a SV102ED to let you guys check it out. 102ED doublet with very very good color correction!! Almost puts TV to shame calling their doublets APOs (yes, I can see CA in my TV76!!). Vic (of Stellarvue) is thinking of making a 130mm doublet with similar performance to the 102!! I'm already on the wait list for that one and I'll bring it instead if it is available next time I go back.

Lots of exciting things will be happening @ Stellarvue this coming year!! They are working hard to eliminate their wait lists with the aim of actually having OTAs in stock in almost all the sizes!! Imagine, AP quality without the wait and price!! If Stellarvue was public, you bet I'd be buying a ton of their shares.

Vincent, what is the focal length of the upcoming 130 doublet? will it priced below US$2k? how to get into the waiting list as I don't see any info on this scope on the SV website?

The 130 doublet will be f6 iirc. There was an email poll last week and people were asked to respond as to which telescope they would buy if Stellarvue made them.

Here's the list of OTAs and options:

1. Nighthawk Special Edition for $299! Lighter weight version with
the Vixen style dovetail rail and the classic rack and pinion
focuser. Limited quantity.

2. 80/9D Special Edition for $329! Uses the classic rack and pinion
focuser and long Vixen style dovetail rail. Limited quantity.

3. Nighthawk on Steriods! This was requested since I announced we had
made one recently for fun. It is a huge 6" f-6 achromat with heavy
duty dual rings, 2" R+P focuser, 1.25" adapter and red dot
finderscope. This would be an RFT only, lots of color! This would be
good for deep sky and not good on the planets. $995!

4. SV115EDT Apo Triplet. This is the one that may be feasible if the
tremendous response continues and we can get glass in huge quantity.
This is the telescope with a very light weight tube and dewshield
(much lighter than the former 115), binoviewr friendly, airline carry
on size (with extension removed), dual rings, Stardust White and
Stardust Blue finishes and hard case.

A: $2495
B: $2795
C: $2995

5: 130 ED doublet. Rings, F2 finderscope, no case.

A: $2295
B: $2595
C: $2795

6: SV5 Oil Spaced Apo Triplet. Much much lighter and more portable
than any 130 f-6 ever made, quick cooldown time, much higher
transmission than air spaced lenses and performs just like the SV5's
we have thus far delivered:

A: $3995
B: $4295
C: $4495
D: $4695 (3.5" Feathertouch)

7: SV160 Oil Spaced Apo Triplet

A: N/A
B: N/A
C: N/A
D: $7995 (3.5" Feather Touch Focuser)

Forgot to mention that the SV130ED was originally priced below 2K but has since gone up in price after they recieved the poll results. I think its because not many people wanted it so their glass quantities were lower and so cost more per unit. But it may still come down in price or it may not happen at all.

These are NOT announced OTAs. In fact, none may be made at all. Just some ponderings from Vic @ Stellarvue.

I've just joined the SV group. The 130ED will be f/8 or f/8.5 (that's more like it, as at f/6 an ED doublet will have plenty of colors).

Also, I checked with OPT, the SV102ED shipping cost to Singapore is US$180, leadtime is 30-60 days. Any takers here?

No, I did not have the chance yet. I was on the wait list for that scope but got offered the last SV95T (only 7 were ever made) so I got that instead.

Everyone who has gotten one raves about it. You can see some very amazing pictures taken by the SV90T on the homepage.

The lens cell shouldn't cost more than $70. The OTA will depend on what form of shpping you decide on. Maybe others here can give you a good estimate on that. Or I can measure it out and use the UPS estimator tomorrow morning.
