WTB: Portable Alt-Az Mount [FOUND]

Post by jiahao1986 »

Hi folks,

My friend just bought a Mak 90 and is seeking a mount suitable for astro use. We tried normal camera tripods and found them hard to use due to lack of slow motion.

So does anyone here selling a portable Alt-Az mount, like the Vixen PortaMount or similar products? And my friend's budget is within S$300.
Thanks for helping!!!

Clear skies,
Jia Hao

Hi arief,

Thanks for the links! However, as my friend's budget is less than $300, I think these two are out of consideration. Besides, both these two mounts are heavier than the Orion Mak 90(i thinks they are designed for larger scopes right?), and, maybe an overkill for such a small scope.

Hi Jia Hao,

You may want to check some of the manfrotto tripods.
Try the 410 Head . It comes with slow motion controls and quick release knobs. It should be within the budget.

Sam

Meng Lee,

I have tried it out many years ago. It would be OK with a small camera or low power spotting scope, but it is definitely over-whelmed by the 90mm MCT. I think the Manfrotto 190 and Jr Geared head will fit his needs best.
