CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!
I have also taken some on the 20th Sept with my webcam. what software did you use to capture the image with your toucam pro? let me know when you are taking photo again like to learn more
I happened to image the moon around the same time too, on 23rd morning just after midnight with the Toucam.
And my goodness, Meng Lee those images are sooooo nice even though you said there was a lot of atmospheric turbulence!!! I'm very happy with what I can get for now since I just started imaging. Still got a lot to learn on how to stack and enhance images, but hard to find enough time to indulge in it. :|
Below is my 2nd image of the moon through a scope. Unstacked mosaic of around 20 frames I think. It was fun, kinda reminded me of jigsaw puzzle when I was stitching them up!
One obvious issue I see is the difference in colour tone between some of the stitched frames... would stacking minimise this problem? Thanks!
Ahh ok so it's the image I have to enhance. I don't have photoshop I currently use a very old version of corel photopaint.
Yup I kept Toucam's settings constant throughout, except white balance which I put "automatic".
Odd thing about Registax (for moon) is the final image often turns out blurer than some single frame images. So I thought perhaps I left out some special settings or something. Then again I didn't read the manual hehe.
The part about the stacked outcome being 'blurrer' is quite normal as you stack several of these images with varying quality and seeing effects. But you will note that the noise would have been significantly reduced. The extent of blurring can be reduced by selectively stacking only a few (perhaps 20% of the original stack number size). You may also like to use the "gradient" method of aligning by choosing this option in Registax, instead of "compress" and see the resulting outcome.
Cool I'll try selective stacking next time. I was using gradient method of aligning before and was wondering if I should use "classic" instead since it sounds original!
