"As a matter of fact, I have none. " You have a 1x7 Binoculars with FOV of about 180 degrees (more than the Ethos eyepiece).. and that are your eyes. :)

I think there is a category that appreciate astronomy and at the same time appreciate glass.

well Human in most basic instinct is materialistic. He need to show off his passion and interest in a hobby to his friends and such. It is this act of showing off that makes him to start collecting the equipment - starting with what he can afford and going up to collecting premium luxury brands - taks, APs, TMBs etc etc.

The same holds for other things in life. We start with a necessity and then become the slave of luxury brands. A $25 dollar watch does the same as a $50K Patek or Vacheron does. But wearing a Patek is so Shiok.

A civilize human always trying to improve existing condition at different priority and different rate.

Here we have observer, imager, simulation programmer, StarTreker, vendor and DIYer improving what they are doing from time to time. Some clock more observation hour, some collect more photon and equipment. I am happy that all of us are having a great time the way we want it.

I enjoy the most during my astronomy trips than getting better/more equipment. But without the many people out there who crazy about equipment, there is no market/competition for manufacturer to do R&D for cheaper and better equipment. No mass-market telescope for people like me who want to see more but can’t afford to pay more.

This hobby is for all of us, with or without any equipment. To reach more people, it have to be affordable. To keep more people, you have to let them have it their way.

Do it your way as long as it make you happy, why wear other people shoe if you have one?
