astrophotography - what is needed

Was wondering if anyone could help me.....

I have a meade etx125pe and would like to get into astrophotography, I also have a canon eos400D. What are the other things i might need and where can i get them and also if there are any tips i could get as to go about doing it...much appreciated.

Hi,

The short answer is, if you want to take planetary pictures, ETX 125 is a very good scope. For deep sky objects, ETX 125 is simply not suitable, due to excessive focal length and slow focal ratio.

So do let us know what objects you are interested to photograph.

Ok, if you really must use ETX 125, then you can try:

1) Fit a SCT reducer to the ETX (may get edge distortions).
2) Get a SCT-T adapter and a EOS T-ring to fit the camera to the back of the reducer.
3) Buy the remote cable for 400D
4) Set the fork mount of the ETX to our latitude.
5) Point to the object you want to take.
6) Try 30sec or longer exposures to see how much you can get without autoguiding.

You should be able to get quite decent pictures in this way.

You need a dark sky.
