Affordable Super Tele lens

Post by cataclysm »

This setup is an affordable alternative for serious Birder, if you do not want to blow away your saving on expensive dedicated tele lenses. The pictures below were taken with 80mm WO ZSFD, coupled with 2X Televue powermate that yields approx. 1100mm.

This Kingfisher was captured somewere at Kranji from a distance of 20 meters. Both pictures were not cropped.

Yes with the 2x powermate, the camera goes a long way back to reach focus. It does look a bit ungainly.

Hi,
A 90mm Mak is also a good choice for this purpose.

Yes, telescope can be used as a super telephoto lens, but not very popular for wild life photography as it lack auto focusing and it's also require longer exposure time as it is "slower" than most telephoto lens, so your target are limited to those "stationary" wild life... Anyway, it's a good and affordable alternative when most of us can't afford those very, very expensive telephoto lens.

By the way, nice shot... :)

Have a nice day.
