Anyone here tried the Celestron SkyScout?

Here is the place to talk about all those equipment(Telescope, Mounts, Eyepieces, etc...) you have. Not sure which scope/eyepiece is best for you? Trash it out here!

mySky

Hi Orion
Last week i was given a Meade mySky as a Birthday present from the family. I am very impressed with it.

It appears to have a stack more info than the celestron skyscout.

Before settling on one or the other do some comparison homework as they are both a similar price. Also with the addition of a $20 cable from meade the mySky interfaces with the LXD75 8"SN and works as a goto controller with the GPS facility. I am unsure whether the skyscout performs the same function.

Take care and clear skies

tried it out last night..it really works! was quite amazed at the speed of the IDENTIFY function...and the way the directional arrows guided the user to an object was pretty cool and really accurate.the object was always around the centre of the skyscout..

however, the GPS fix always gave the wrong lat and long..dunno why..put me at 117E, 19N..which is kinda way off..is it because of the flats that are blocking? so after trying a few times i entered in the lat long manually..

will try again tonite on a big open field and see how...anyone with a skyscout here has any ideas or suggestions?

BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY!!!! i updated the skyscout firmware last night and there was this EXTRA option..called telescope interface..when i went in it says telescope not connected..so i believe celestron shld be coming up with another update pretty soon and an interface cable to plug the skyscout to a celestron telescope...got point and click convenience!!!! sugoi!

ok..tried it just now again..and it works fine..ha..realised have to hold it overhead to get an accurate fix (i wonder why...). tried both in a field and amidst HDB flats..both also OK!:D
