Alright, this is for sharing of your observation experience. Or, if you are arranging gatherings, star-gazing expeditions or just want some company to go observing together, you can shout it out here.
Marine Parade Community Centre (Youth Executive Committee) Astronomical Society (MPASTRO) is proud to present Lyrids Star Party 2008. This is an annual event aimed at fostering ties between the various schools and increasing the awareness and knowledge of astronomy. Through this event, MPASTRO hopes to ignite in the students a passion for astronomy, so that they too can enjoy the beauty of the cosmos.
The event date is 12 April 2008. The event will consist of a lecture, games, movie and a stargazing session. The telescope viewing and stargazing activity will be carried out if weather permits.
The Lyrids star party is organised in conjunction with the meteor shower of the same name. The event is intended for secondary, JC and polytechnic students from various astronomy clubs all around Singapore, and it will be at Republic Polytechnic (from 02:00pm to 08:00 12 April) and East Coast Park Area D1 (from 08:00pm 12 April to 07:00 am 13 April). The activities include a lecture, games, movie screening, and stargazing session.
For those who are interested to attend the activities in RP, on-site registration will be located outside the One Stop Centre and open from 1:30pm on 12th April. Last registration intake will be at 2:20pm. Our invited speaker, Mr ykChia will be giving a talk on "Near Earth Events- Meteors and Satellites". It will start at 3:30pm.
For the East Coast Park activities, we will reach east coast latest 8:00pm. Participants would be staying overnight at a field where they could have a clear sight of many celestial objects in the sky. Telescopes would be used to provide a closer look at the various celestial objects such as nebulas and star clusters. In addition to that, since it is the early period of the meteor shower of Lyrids, participants may stand a chance to catch sight of a few meteors – a rare privilege in Singapore!
So for those who are coming and would like to join us today, you can contact Jin Peng 90678049. In case the main contact person is not available, you can call Anne 96356064 (backup contact)
Now the sky look blue here, pray for clear sky tonight!

Those coming by car can park at either C4 or D1, head towards the shoreline, and you will be able to see the site. Additionally, the inland direction from the perspective of the site will meet a big canal. Those coming by public transport can also take buses that arrive at VJC. Moreover, do note that there are two restrooms nearby and several pavillions for shelter just in case of sudden bad weather.
Number of big guns there and a lot of new faces, especially from the school and some Singastroian that I met for the 1st time.
