A group of us is considering a star-gazing trip to Mersing probably
on 19-20 Mar (Fri-Sat). It will be a moonless night duringthat period.
We will drive down to Mersing. Interested ones will have to arrange own transport.
Confirmation of the trip will be made known by next Wednesday.

Anyone else interested to go?
Actually, the 20th Mar 04 (saturday-new moon) weekend is a good time for those who would like to try out the Messier Marathon. I would be going for it myself and it would be better if there are other interested people to join in the fun.
At the last Mersing trip on 21 Feb 04 with Koshu, Matthew etc, I did a 'rehearsal' session and managed to observe 48 Messier objects (exclude counting other NGCs, ICs, etc) in about 5 hours using a 8" SCT on a video tripod. Koshu and I started late (almost 9pm) and we all ended and left early (about 4.30am). But the most limiting factor was mental and physical exhaustion after 5 hours of star-hopping. Seeing nebulae and galaxies at Mersing is rather easy because of the excellent sky transparency and high object/background contrast, but I had to stop halfway through the Virgo Cluster because I was literally seeing stars and really cannot walk straight anymore! Having learned from that experience, I hope to be better prepared mentally and physically this time round.
Anyone interested can contact or pm to Lee or me.
clear skies!

The above trip has been tentatively postpone to another date somewhere around 15-16 April (Thu & Fri) reasons being :-
- lack of interest
- transportation woes
- impending bad weather
- Malaysian Election
Those who are interested & have access to vehicular means can contact me. I probably can take only 1 extra person w/stuff.
