Hi all,
Prior to the previous thread with regards to the Punggai trip, the postponed dates has been set. The trip will be on from May 30th to June 1st. It seems that the new chalets there are extremely popular and it is quite hard to secure accommodation with them especially during the weekends, what more with the coming holidays. I have personally made a trip there to check out the chalets and the environment. It is quite near to the Batu Layar site that we go, and the visibility of the Orion Milky Way was evident. The site is south-east facing, and next to the beach as well. All chalets are single storeyed and has a low profile. There are NO tall trees around the site, which makes it good for unobstructed viewing of the night sky. I have spoken to the resort manager, and he is OK with switching most of the chalet lights in the night for our stargazing activities. In fact, if there are enough people to book the entire resort, all lights can be off! The accommodation quality here in Punggai is a little more "up-class", with all chalets offering TV and AIR-CONDITIONED units. Each chalet for our trip would be triple sharing, with either 3 individual beds, or 1 single, and 1 queen combi. There are coffee/tea making facilities as well. Similar to the previous expedition trips to Mersing, the cost of package will encompass all meals, accommodation, and transport. What I liked about the place, is it is very new. It was only opened in March, and everything is CLEAN and spanking new! There is even a pin-pong table, pool, BBQ, etc present. When I was there, the skies were deep blue, the environment within the chalet grounds and vicinity were very flat, and the grass around the chalets were short and very condusive for setups. Infact, you do not need to walk far from your unit to where you setup. If you like, you can just set up your telescope right beside your chalet! And sleep in, when the clouds roll in! The resort manager is very nice, and he told us, he will allow us a little time to gather the total number going and 'secure' some chalet units first. However, I am suppose to tell them latest by May 9th how many people would be staying, so if you are keen to go, please let me know ASAP. Trip cost per person would be SGD$165.

Latest Update: Sorry for the fuss, but I HAVE TO close the registration by midnight tonight. Need to notify the resort by tomorrow morning, before all vacancies will not be available anymore and given to another resort client. From what I know, only one more chalet unit is available as of writing. To the others who have signed up, and notified, your stay in the chalet units are confirmed already. Again, I apologize for the "hectic" nature of things but am currently stuck in between securing chalets units for everyone (making sure everyone has a place to stay) and the act of "chopping" for our people in the eyes of the chalet management which could very well be given to other chalet clients.
