Has anyone gone to the new henderson bridge (new bridge linking mount faber to telok blangah hill open last month) for observation? i just went there yesterday. Even though the lights were on, I was told that after midnight all lights are off and it may be very dark. The place is only accessable by car, but it look to have a lot of potential. I went there to recce with a friend from NPB.
Has anyone observe after midnight there b4?
Anyway my friend (he is in charge of all the maintenance of parks in the west) told me that some astronomers has vandalised some street lamps in the parks and painted it black !!! hope its not from anybody in singastro:))

The bridge itself is undulating/sloping. The street/road lights below will still be on. I didn't notice any carpark when i walked through two days back. There are no toilets nearby.

Walking on the bridge is a great experience, got time must try. about 45 min slow walk from Mt Faber MRT.

That's really appalling! I would really love to paint their big lens black or cover it with a trash bagFuzzball wrote:Anyway my friend (he is in charge of all the maintenance of parks in the west) told me that some astronomers has vandalised some street lamps in the parks and painted it black !!! hope its not from anybody in singastro:))

I was there 3 weeks ago. There are carparks and a toilet (with a drinks vending machine outside) on the Telok Blangah side of the bridge. However, these are located about 50m+ downhill from the bridge. There is a road on Telok Blangah Hill which leads from the carpark area to the bridge in addition to the foot path leading to the bridge, but i'm not sure if the public may use this road.
BTW, I think they've done a great job building the Southern Ridges walkways and bridges. In addition to the bridge linking Telok Blangah Hill and Mt Faber, on the other side of Telok Blangah Hill, there is a 1.5km+ long elevated walkway which runs along the edge of the secondary forest to Alexandra Road. This walkway is at a height of about 10 feet - 60+ feet above the ground level. A great way to appreciate trees...

yes...will there be any problem if setting scope on a bridge?...the bridge is actually quite stable..just that there are slopes...I'm sure can find a flatter patch... but there might be strong winds though.err...u mean setup telescope and all on a bridge????
In front of the bridge (henderson side) is single double line I saw 4-5 cars parking there when I went. I guess after midnight there will be lesser cars there (easier to transport equipments)I was there 3 weeks ago. As for the issue with lamps, my friend said that from the entrance of henderson bridge to Mt faber. lighting will all be switch off. The street lamp are further down the street, so I am not too sure whether affect that much or not...I will see if I can go down this week after 12pm...to see how feasible it is.
