Jupiter's Third Red Spot

Looks like there is a new Red Spot! I think it will be fun finding it. :)

From the size in the Hubble picture, it is about the same size as white ovals. So if one's scope is able to see white ovals, I would think the Third Red Spot should be no problem since it has high contrast (deep red colour).

Maybe it looks like a 'burst pimple' with the blood in it. Haa.

Tks for the lead!

Have been observing Jupiter on and off in the past 2-3 months. Looks more featured this year than previously. The bands and ovals are more distinct.

But I'm not sure I'll be able to spot Spot No. 3 with my 8" SCT. Hmmm... 12.5 or 18 sounds more likely.

Actually the smallest red spot has been there for quite a while. I saw it with a 10 inch dob in March, but it was quite far from the GRS then. Now it should be much more fun watching the three red spots together.
Clear skies please...

Looks fairly clear tonight. Jupiter rises at about 10pm.

Here's a heads-up on Jupiter from:
http://www.skyviewcafe.com/skyview.php

Tonight, its GRS and the shadow of Ganymede should be visible from 11pm to 2am. Europa's shadow from 1.30am.

Ganymede itself should transit from about 2am, and Europa from about 3am.

Intersting stuff for observing and imaging.
