Power Meter

Post by Airconvent »

Hi guys
This is a long shot but wondering if anyone has a power meter ?
The type that plugs between the wall socket and your device and measures power consumption. I was at Sim Lim Tower and they cost $75...
If possible, I'll rather borrow one and do a one-time measurement of power consumption of my appliances especially my pc which I suspect is a power guzzler.
Do let me know if you have one you can lend me..
Thanks

The biggest power guzzler of tpday PCs are the video cards....are you using one of those ATI cross fire, Nvidia SLI ....stuff?..., they are easily another 300 watts over your existing PC.

nope...I don't need that kind of power...
My graphics card is an ancient Nvidia GE-Force2-MX400 and grabbed from a second hand basket in SLS...old , but still works...hahaha
But my PC does generate alot of heat. Its very warm to the touch and you can feel the difference in my airconditioned study sitting next to it and at the other end of the room.. [smilie=cool.gif]

If it generates that much heat, it should be quite a problem. I don't see why a low-end computer would generate that much heat. Anyway, if you're looking to leave your PC on for a long time without busting your electricity bill, you might want to do it on a laptop. I've been using the laptop and leaving it on 24/7 for 2 months now and I don't have too much increase in the household electricity bills.

And if you're looking for some power meter, it might be wise to go on VR-Zone or HWZ to check them out. They have better bargains and deals there. Or there are some nice folks there who may just lend you one. (:

The simple way is look at the power rating of your power supply + monitor wattage rating lor.

Have a nice day.

If you are using AMD, make sure Cool'n'Quiet is enabled.

I don't know about Intel...
