Re: Lumix 520 Compact Camera 'Starry Sky' Mode

Here is the place to talk about all those equipment(Telescope, Mounts, Eyepieces, etc...) you have. Not sure which scope/eyepiece is best for you? Trash it out here!

Re: Lumix 520 Compact Camera 'Starry Sky' Mode

Post by Lee »

Was looking for a travel compact camera with my wife when I chanced upon the Panasonic Lumix Compact Model FX520 which may have the potential for 'wide angle milky way' shot at :-

1. Scene Mode - Starry Sky (default @ f2.8, 25mm wide angle, 60sec)
2. Manual Mode - f2.8, 25mm wide angle, 60 sec & up to ISO 1600

So far I cannot find any compact (with manual as well) with exposure of up to 60sec. Will test it out if got a chance.

Hi,
You might want to take a look at Panasonic Lumix LX3 which got a very fast lens 24-60mm F2.0-F2.8. It's also had full manual mode, up to 60s exposure and even had RAW output.

Have a nice day.

Yes, I did saw the LX3 (whose specs are quite near to those DLR) but since wife is using so decided on the 520. Some of the features differences gathered from the site :-

Lumix 520 vs (LX3)
Mag : 5x (2.5x)
Wide Angle : 25mm (24mm)
CCD : 1/2.33" (1/1.63")
Image : Jpeg (Raw)
Weight : 155g (229g)
Dim : slighty smaller
LCD : Touchscreen capable (manual)
Looks : more pleasing
Price : lower

Wife actually prefers the Lumix FX37 as it has a much more pleasing look & even smaller. But FX520 has manual mode.

Wow...

So, they should be good for piggy back on the scope and shoot milky way using some 60s exposures.
