Update on Senai-Desaru Expressway

Post by starfinder »

Here is an update on the planned Senai-Desaru Expressway in south-eastern Johor.

I managed to view the bridge under construction on a flight back to Singapore today (11 Oct 2008).

The expressway was supposed to have been fully completed by December this year, after much delay. However, from the air, I saw that the 1.7km cable-stayed bridge (which spans across Sungei Johor) is far from completed: though the two central towers are up, the road portion itself has only been built to about a quarter distance from the river's two shores. So I think it would be several months earliest before the bridge is completed. Further, the planned roads leading up to the bridge are still only bare dirt tracks for several miles.

It is even possible that construction has either stalled or stopped altogether, since it looks little different from what I saw quite some time back.

Hmmmm.... I was looking forward to the opening of this expressway this December, since it would have meant a quick 45-minute east bound drive to the Punggai / Desaru area from JB customs, rather than having to travel up north to Kota Tinggi and then down south again to get around Sungei Johor.

There is no update on its date of opening on its website or on the wikipedia page on it:

Anybody has any other info on it?
