Venus on 3 Nov 2008

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

Venus on 3 Nov 2008

Post by Meng Lee »

First trial of Venus at 8.06pm, seeing around 3/10. (Very small!)

There are some cloud features, so I hope next time it can be better.

Nice Meng Lee!
Venus does not normally have much surface features but you managed to catch it anyway!. [smilie=admire2.gif]

Probably. I have a UV filter waiting to be used! Maybe will try it this weekend... :P

Hi,

Yes, it is a UV shot at the prime focus of C11 with Skynyx. When I barlow 2x, the image is sooooooooo noisy that focus cannot even be judged. So I had to settle for 2800mm then upsample 200%.

By the way, I finish setting up at 8pm, so Venus is very low in altitude. For others who want to try, remember to set up early :)

Is it because you captured it in like a single channel that's why it doesn't have any colour?

Hi,

There is really no conventional concept of colour for a UV image.

Nice coloured photos you see in books are taken in UV and those colours are arbitrarily assigned.

Some people adopt IR as Red, G as Green and UV as blue as "colours" of Venus.
