May Mersing Trip: 21st to 25th May 2004: Registration CLOSED

Post by nF »

Posting here on behalf of Remus, Please email him at remuscj@yahoo.com for enquires.

Hi all,

Glad to be able write this email at long last after several
enquiries and enthusiastic recommendations!
Yes, the Mersing trip in May will be on! And it is going to host the
most active lineup of celestial events for the year. The showcase
objects would undoubtly be the two great comets of 2004 -
Linear and Neat, and not fogetting a celestial conjunction of the
thin cresent moon, Jupiter and Saturn all in the western horizon.
Both naked-eye comets will appear a minimum of 14 degrees
above the horizon, which will not be a problem to see from the
usual observing site. As it is the mid year season, you will also
get to see a comeback of the rich southern milky way and
northern Cygnus treasures.

We will have two transport forms catered - 3D2N and 5D4N
options. There will be limited vacancies, so please hurry and
register through my cellphone via SMS or call.

Expedition Details:
3D2N - SGD$120 per person
Price includes all meals, accomodation and two way transport
(except for the lunch in Mersing town)
Dates: 21 - 23rd May 2004
Departure on 21st May: 10AM
Venue of departure: yet to confirm.

3D2N - SGD$150 per person
Price includes all meals, accomodation and two way transport
(except for the lunch in Mersing town)
Dates: 21 - 25th May 2004
Departure on 21st May: 10AM
Venue of departure: yet to confirm.

Both packages will depart Singapore at the same time. The
dates are specially chosen to ensure that we see the comets at
a reasonably high altitude and brightness.

For those who have expressed interest in this trip prior, PLEASE
CONTACT ME AGAIN, as I cannot remember whom are
interested (there's like more than 15 already).

But do take note that your seating (like previous trip) will only be
secured upon payment, and not reserved by verbal accounts. I
thinkk this will only be the fairest way.

This trip is extremely popular so please hurry and decide (from
previous May trip experience, seats can fill up COMPLETELY
within a week after notification). Those working, kindly apply for
leave only after your confirmation and payment, to avoid
unnecessary disappointments!

Those who are going for this trip and/or is your first time with us,
kindly contact me for further details.

Here's the GPS fix for the observation site: 2º 36' 13.2"N, 103º46' 48.9"E
From Mersing Town, head north about 20km along the trunk road to Kuantan.
Turn right into a minor road with a sign saying Tg. Resang.
Turn left at the first junction
Travel for about 4km & use the GPS fix to determine the exact location. Its a large field by the sea, on the right side of the road and has a few coconut trees.

We will be staying at a rustic kampong-style 'resort' about 2km further north along the road from the observing site. Its on the right side of the road just after a large concrete bridge.
