Alnitak, Flame & Horsehead Nebula

Post by weixing »

Hi,
Took this at the end of my visual observation session on 21 Dec 2008 early morning. The Orion was start to getting low and wind was very strong( and very cold, good for camera, but not for me :P ), so the RAW images wasn't that good. No flat was taken as I haven't figure out how to took a proper and effective flat easily.

Anyway, heavily processed to enhanced the horsehead nebula and to get rid of the vignetting, so the result wasn't that good.

Image
Below are the settings:
Camera: Canon 450D Original
Telescope: Vixen R200SS with MPCC and IDAS LPS-P2 filter
Images: 40 images x 2 minute exposure @ ISO800 (unguided)
Dark frame subtracted and No flat applied.

Have a nice day.

If you could go 10minutes It would even be better, but then you would need guiding.

Nice effort Weixing! This target is really difficult to image under our severely light polluted sky.

Hi,
This target is really difficult to image under our severely light polluted sky.
I don't have much hope in capture the horsehead nebula in the first place as I'm not using a mod DSLR, so was quite surprise when I saw it after stacking.
You still obbing Fridays at the field next to the Mosque?
Yes, but only when the sky is clear... which is very rare.
is the bright star Alnitak?
Yes.

Thanks for all the compliment. Hope more clear night sky on weekends in 2009!

Have a nice day.
