If you can travel to bt timah, the former Turf club will be an option.

Chinese Garden also quite a good spot.
Facing the MRT station, there's abig open field and it quite dark.
Have been there for the last 2 nites, moreover the sky is quite clear lately.

Hi there.

There aren't any really good places in Singapore island, since its so light polluted. However, I think some of the better places (apart from those mentioned above) that I've been to include:

East Coast Park, e.g. the beach-side grassy area in front of the area between Car Parks C4 and D1. This is good only for objects out to sea, i.e. at due East and southeast.

One of the beaches at Changi. Again for objects out to sea in the East, northeast and southeast, and perhaps north.

In the city centre, a place which has dark and wide surroundings is the football field off Loewen Road (in the Dempsey Road area). However, being in the city centre, the skies are very light polluted. For more details on this place, see: http://www.singastro.org/viewtopic.php? ... ght=loewen

Light pollution is getting worse in Singapore all the time, what with ever new brightly lit attractions popping for the tourism industry.

However, it generally is darker after about 1am when many external building lights and e.g. golf course lights, are switched off. All astronomers here long and hope for blackouts. Ha...

Thanks for the great advice. For observing with others, is it best to keep looking on this listserve for notes that someone is going, or is there more of an observing club that I should join?

I will get a car next weekend in time for the new moon, so if the weather is cooperative...
