DSOs from Australian star party

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

DSOs from Australian star party

Post by rcj »

Heyo!

Here is the first processed image from the recent oz star party 'produce' - of the Horsehead Nebula in Orion. This object has been imaged close to a zillion times by imagers all over the world, but this is my personal rendition taken with a 3-inch refractor and the CCD camera.

Exposure details: 3x10min for each (R, G, B L) channels. Total 2 hours.

The exposures have been plagued with a couple of satellite crossing and flares. Colour balance has not been changed significantly, giving an output as close to the original throughput via the filters.

Wished to go more for luminance but the Horsehead is already very low and hitting the tree branches before midnight.

Here is the second image, which features a 2-panel colour mosaic of Tarantula Nebula and a part of the Large Magellanic Cloud taken during the star party.

Exposures: 3x7min (per R, G, B channel) per panel.
