Hobby: Star gazing?

Post by fizzy123 »

   Hmm..... Just curious n interested to know how and when u all bitten by the 'astro' bug, share ur stories. n also how do u tell ur frens or peers about ur special hobby (considering how small the astro community is), whether it is 'astronomy' or 'star gazing'. Wat is their reaction?

On my part, my frens as always doubt and question about such a hobby. Some consider it veri out of the world and think such people as weird and crazy. :( :o

haha.. fizzy.. dun worry.. those "some" people might have never seen or heard of this hobby.. Prehaps they have not seen a telescope before.. haha.. they might also have a great misunderstanding of Astronomy.. thought that it is same as Astrology..

so no hard feeling, pal.. they just dun simply understand what it is all about.. so cant blame them too.. hehe

anyway.. Astronomy also can consider as an expensive hobby other than Golf.. my friends are so suprised and excited when they heard that i have a telescope.. and the common thing they say is, "Wah.. you rich sia.. have a telescope.." or "Siao ah.."

but above all, this hobby is fun depending on certain people.. some people might think that this is a waste of time.. but when you are very interested in something, you will have the passion about it and do whatever you think is the best out of it.. you will also enjoy and have fun out of this hobby..

Hmm.. I don't know, maybe you have weird friends around you? Many people just gape that I'm in this, but their most-immediate question almost always is: "But singapore see what? stars arh? what else?" Then I plunge into a long discussion about nebulae and star clusters and constellations...

Usually people are interested in astronomy of course, who doesn't like looking at a starry night sky? ;) At least most of my friends do like it. But it just ain't the "correct" hobby here, as we can see all of us "suffer" from light pollution and other problems, which quite immediately make them give up on this hobby. Another common reason I hear from them is "No time larh!". Now in my school I try to invite any teacher who passes me and asks me about astronomy, to my cca's observation. Even the gatekeeper sometimes joins us  Over here we just have to promote astronomy in another way, by actively telling people that it IS possible to learn about astronomy as a hobby in Singapore.

Yes!! Never let those light pullution discourage us. Actually many ppl are interested in astronomy but they are too busy to read up and find out more. And i am sure what really interest some of us are the constellations but they don't really understand it so they will find it boring. If they have a slight knowledge, i am sure they will see the night sky a more beautiful picture.

Good day
