hi,

wow..not bad to read this thread. Singapore sky is too much light polluted. here is not suitable for Astro photography specially deep sky. Very tough to go more then minute of exposure even you take less then a minute in individual exposure and staking it to get longer exposure image.

Can anyone write about our local Astro photography?

Thank you
Michael

Hi Mic,

Actually I wrote about Astrophotography in the "sticky" thread in the Astrophotography subforum.

It's not exactly true that you cannot do deep sky object photography in Singapore. It is more of a techniques issue. Here are some solutions:

1) High- bit camera. 16 bit camera can "see through" more than a 12,14-bit camera. PM me if you want explanation.

2) Use IDAS LPS filter with one shot colour cameras. I can grab Horsehead Neb in Singapore with a 80mm APO by this method.

3) Narrowband Imaging. You can even do this on Full Moon nights but the bad thing is, this only works for nebula and different filters work well for different types of nebulae. Also, many people don't like black-and-white pictures. You can make colour pictures out of it, but colour balancing is somewhat tricky.

Can be done for our local skies. Also depend on your post processing skills.

You should see photos posted by Neil Fleming who take most of his shots from Boston. His photos are often found in S&T.

Our local astronomers also took quite some nice photos too despite our poor skies
