Toa Payoh Ob group reopen (again!)

Post by zong »

Seeing as we have more and more people staying around central area, we shall open the Toa Payoh Garden Ob site again!

It seems that the garden has gotten brighter yet again, but for a starter session we can always find at least 2-3 objects in the sky (as long as the sky is clear). So here we are:

Date: 20 June 2009 (Saturday)
Time: 8-10pm
Place: Toa Payoh Garden

I dug up my old singastro posts and found this picture indicating the place where the ob site is.

Sky looks very bad.

I will wait on standby at home until 8pm for the clouds to clear.. If they don't, we'll have to cancel today's session :(

Hey Zong i just cycled to Toa Payoh Garden to see the conditions there. I noticed its quite heavily lit. I know one place near Braddell which is not that heavily lit. Its the car park of Braddell View and i stay in the estate. It has an elevation of about 30m, like 4 floors. The East horizon is totally unblocked, but the North, West and a bit of the South horizons are half blocked by the HDB blocks. Just yesterday at about 12am i saw about 20-25 stars there. Even saw 3 star clusters. So if you want you can take it into consideration.

MSCP may not be ideal because of residual heat from the day which will radiate from the ground.

It may not be an issue at this site, but I think thats one of the reasons they are generally avoided, lighting aside.

Actually I am not so worried of the heat. I am more worried about the lighting that is at the top of the MCP.
