Before you buy this scope, doesn't matter expensive or cheap, have you seen through it and know what to expect before you consider buying it?

You should ask yourself that do you really need the GOTO?? Basically, you are paying for the GOTO in the above model.

If you want better optics, there is currently a 80mm ED scope selling at around the same price in the buy and sell section.... IMHO, a better 80mm scope than the above mention model.

Good luck and have a nice day.

i think you should go for a better scope like c8 which is not that costly...and still get to see more of the sky, that get you excited and be convinced, then get a tracking or goto mount.

With 80mm refractor scope, you could only see the moon...and some bright planets and maybe m42.

Or get the 80ed...which is a optically much better scope, which you can keep for your future astrophotography...and also still can get a Cassigrain later.

Hi,Oda Nobunaga
If I dont remember wrongly someone is selling a 80mmED on a AZ3 mount in the buy and sell thread.--with eyepiece and finder somemore--for around S$780-and the best part when you buy from him you can ask him how to use the equip you bought. The one you are eyeing to buy is only a achromatic not a ED and hence inferior to a ED and if I am not mistaken has quite some plastic parts.Thanks.

The GOTO is really not necessary. It does not contain info on S'pore's skies
unless you know the latitude and longitude. Some times it is inaccurate even with the positions. Try to get one without GOTO. It will be much cheaper with better aperture. Join in in the ob sessions. someone may just have scopes that you dream of. [smilie=good-luck.gif]

mm..I don't understand what you mean by "Singapore skies". The skies are the same everywhere except you get a different perspective depending on where you are. For Celestron, you just need to select our timezone.

I for one prefer to go for goto scopes because they allow me to look for objects quickly. Some people like to sit and wait for the fish. I just want to catch them. Most here would prefer to wait though, so they recommend manual scopes but these need you to learn starhopping which may not appeal to everyone especially an impatient newbie. $700 bucks for a brand new goto scope with 80mm scope is not cheap but not that expensive either but the aperture may be too small to be satisfying.

When comparing with overseas prices, always remember to factor in the shipping!
For example, the Galileoscope that I bought cost only US$15 but the shipping cost was more than US$30!!

Cheers
