Lunar Eclipse - 4th May

Post by acroamatic »

Hi, I'm new here. Just wondering if we will be in position to view the lunar eclipse on 4th May - should be early morning 5th May in Singapore. Read about it here but can't make head or tail of it.

Hi acroamatic,
The total lunar eclipse will occur after midnight on May 5th with the following Singapore local times:

Penumbral Eclipse Begins: 1:50:53AM
Partial Eclipse Begins: 2:48:20AM
Total Eclipse Begins: 3:52:07AM
Greatest Eclipse: 4:30:16AM
Total Eclipse Ends: 5:08:27AM
Partial Eclipse Ends: 6:12:15AM
Penumbral Eclipse Ends: 7:09:36AM

At time of totality, the moon will be 21 degrees above the SWW horizon. So do make sure you have a clear view for this if you are observing or imaging the eclipse. For your information, the moon will set at 6:04AM so we will only be able to see the eclipse progress until just before partial eclipse ends.

Cool, thanks! Suspected UT was GMT but wasn't sure. And definitely wasn't sure where in the sky to look. Now I know... thanks once again.

Hi fiona,
we will be able to view the moon in its total eclipse form but will not be view it when it is half-way through moving out of earth's shadow.

Hi Vincent,
Greatest Eclipse occurs when the effect of totality is the greatest, and when the colouration of the moon is most pronounced.

Hi,
Greatest Eclipse is defined as the instant when Moon passes closest to the axis of Earth's shadows.

Have a nice day.
