Overnighting to catch the Comet on Saturday morning

Post by harlequin2902 »

Hi guys,

I'm thinking of overnighting somewhere this Friday (30/4) so that I can catch the comet on Saturday morning. Anyone interested in joining me ? I don't think I'll be bringing much, at most my 100mm binos on Manfrotto mount - but if someone can help, maybe the widefield-capable Pronto also.

We have to decide on a suitable place first. I was thinking Dempsey at first but was advised that the Eastern sky is quite obstructed over there. My home base of Toa Payoh is also out of the question...too many buildings in the east.

Suggestions ?

Hi Sam(uel),
You can check with Sam(Lee). He has booked the SP stadium (where Remus captured some of the cool comet stuff you've seen) for the whole week.
Unfortunately, he is in the midst of his exams, so hardcore as he may, he cannot take full advantage of it. However, I think if the sky is clear, Remus and whatever is left of the gang ("NoExam" Platoon) will maximise on the booking. You may want to join him...

Actually, all the comet images that you see from myself are taken just outside the clubhouse corridor where the comet can be seen from 5:30AM the last time it was seen, and we have tracked it down till about 6:40AM latest before it is washed out in the sky's morning glare. Might try again on Friday. SMS.

Erm, hehe back to topic here :P

I am joining Samuel for his overnight ob too, and if all is well I'll also bring one of my other friends. So that makes 3 people already, any other interested? Also, the place isn't decided, where can we do the overnight?

Hi,
Want to try in Tampines?? :) There is a big field in front of the Swimming pool which may be a good place and I think you should be able to see the comet if weather is good. If interested, you can come and survey the place to see whether it is suitable... :)

Anyway, I don't think this coming weekend can do any observation... weather is super bad... :(

Have a nice day.

Hi,
I think the obstruction is less than 10° to the east, so I think it should be OK.... You may want to take a look yourself before you decide... you got the whole night to find a good site.. :P

Anyway, I think tomorrow weather will be no good also... :( Or else, I will bring my 6 inch "2° Finderscope" down to join you guys... :P

Have a nice day.
