Catch the Lunar Eclipse in SP!

Hi everyone,

We (SP Astronomers) have just gotten the approval to overnight on 4th May to catch the Lunar Eclipse. There will also be a chance to catch both Comet LINEAR C/2002 T7 & Comet NEAT C/2001 Q4, which should reach naked eye visibility by then. Please note that this might be your last chance to see Comet LINEAR C/2002 T7 as it will be setting lower and lower into the horizon, so do not waste this chance!

Details of the celestial happenings has already been posted in another thread. Refer to it for details.

Comets & Eclipse.... What are you waiting for?

hey sam,
oh no....working day again...how I wish I was a teenager again..heh heh
will have to plan ahead by sleeping more the previous day...
any chance of one more on Friday/Sat night (7/8 May)?

really? it can be seen without a bino? that's good! does it mean also a less light polluted place should be able to see Comet?

yes...but it won't look so nice at all...you only get the thrill that you can see it...that's all...
much like omega centauri un mersing....yes, its naked eye but then, all you see its a small blurred dot. you need a large aperture scope to be able to resolve to the many stars that it is made up of.

Rich: We should have another session this friday as our exams should be over by then. Fingers crossed. Maybe if you drop by on tuesday overnight, i'll tell you!

I have already uploaded a map of SP to our website here:

The map is marked in red with a route which you can drive in to the observing site (A basketball court).

1. Come in from Gate 3 and you'll see the Stadium on your left (Unfortunately, we can't observe there now as they have left the lights on)

2. Turn RIGHT into a carpark and drive ALL the way in.

3. You'll reach a very steep slope (a bridge) and the basketball court (observing site) is just on your right.

4. Cross the bridge to find a carpark (Carpark L).

David: The observing site is pretty close to our clubhouse (T11). You just need to refer to the map and you'll understand how to come.
