difference between star pointer and finderscope?

Here is the place to talk about all those equipment(Telescope, Mounts, Eyepieces, etc...) you have. Not sure which scope/eyepiece is best for you? Trash it out here!

Hi,
Star pointer will be quite useful in a very dark site under a very clear sky. It is also a useful tools for public or newbie to show them where you point your telescope at. Basically, you need to be very familiar to the sky if want to use it in Singapore.

Finderscope will be more useful in Singapore... we need the extra light gathering power to see dimer object.

Have a nice day.

but the finderscope can show stars not visible to the naked eye under heavy light pollution...though the views are inverted...then again some star maps come inverted...

I think a star pointer is better, it gives a true zero power view of the night sky unlike the finderscope which view is inverted. But then again if u are out to hunt for dim DSO a finder is better it shows dimmer stars.

My finderscope is a straight-through viewfinder. 7x30 I think. It shows more stars than the naked eye can see, which is helpful for starhopping.
