Mars and Saturn - 12 Jan 2010

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

Mars and Saturn - 12 Jan 2010

Post by ebeyonder »

Hi all,

I'm trying to learn how to image properly and tried my hand at both Mars and Saturn this morning in Singapore.

The footage was taken through an 8" LX90. I used a Neximage and then processed everything using Registax primarily. I just clicked the default values and tinkered with the wavelets till the pictures looked ok. If you have any suggestions on how to improve, I would be most grateful :)

Hi,ebeyonder
Yes,at the moment, mars seems to be featureless except for the polar cap.Your photo confirm what I saw/photo days ago.It must be undergoing a planetscale duststorm.;and saturn rings are showing again.Nice photo.

Mars with its polar ice cap (not always this big) & Saturn with its rings visible
( previously edge on & invisible as Galileo saw it - in fact we are experiencing what Galileo experienced when he looked at Saturn for first time)
Jupiter as usual with its cloud patterns & Red spot ( or is it a shadow of one of the moons in this picture.)
All beautiful photos

Very good first effort ebeyonder!
Brings back memories when I was shooting them with my Nikon 885 PnS and $$$ scopetronics adapter! [smilie=admire.gif]
