NGC2997 in Antlia

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

NGC2997 in Antlia

Post by Barry »

19 x 10minute subs, darks and flats subtracted
ED120 APO
Orion Starshoot Pro III color CCD.

55 million light years away, this classic and very pretty spiral galaxy peeks at us through the thick veil of starry hosts in our home galaxy.

Small, but nice. Picked up a few faint fuzzies with it too so I am pretty pleased.

I don't like compressing them so much for the forums as they get pretty lossy so you can see a higher resolution version in my image gallery http://www.asignobservatory.com/index.p ... Itemid=112

Excellent photo of spiral galaxy in Antlia, near the right edge there is a spiral
galaxy edge on , below which is yet another galaxy ,either spiral or irregular
- all very far away
There are about 200 billion known galaxies (in reality probably much more),each containing about 200 billion stars!, separated by incredibly vast distances

Thanks mate. I think our galaxy hosts 200 to 400 billion stars. They are still debating I think.
