hi guys...i've been wanting to upgrade from my c5 to either an 8 or 9.25 inch SCT.
tha problem is i don't know which one to choose!
cost isn't much of a concern to me and neither is portability...it's just that i don't know which one is better to use. i already haf a cg5-gt mount which can support the weight of up to the c9.25. but what i'm worried is can the mount support addition stuff like camera...barlow and stuff.
can guys with experience advice?
should i get c8 or c9.25

Hi,
If portability and cost is not a problem, of course you get the largest aperture that you can afford.. the C9.25.
If celestron can mount a 10" newtonian on a CG5, I think a C9.25 + camera + barlow + etc, won't be a problem.
But I think you may need do a reality check... can you really handle a C8 or a C9.25. Unless you always observe with someone else, a C8 or C9.25 + a CG5 mount is actually quite a lots to handle. You may find that you will not observe as offen as you do after a while... so think about it before you get one.
Have a nice day.

Hi,doubt ur CG5 mount can handle the SCT. The newtonian have only a mirror cell mounted at the bottom of the scope compare to SCT with an extra corrector len in the front which might introduce more weight.
The SCT corrector plate is not as heavy as a MCT corrector plate. Also, the length of the 10" Newtonian is a lots longer than the C9.25 and the extra length do add some additional weight on to the scope. For example, my 6" F5 Newtonian is actually heavier than my 5" MCT, but you will feel that the 5" MCT is heavier... I think because the 5" MCT is more compact, thus feel heavier.
Anyway, base on the specification given by Celestron, the 10" Newtonian is around 10kg(20lbs) lighter than the 9.25" SCT. I don't know how heavy can the CG5 take, but since celestron use it to mount the C9.25... the CG5 should be able to handle it.
Have a nice day.
