I do hope you meant astronomy and not astrology because this is an astronomy forum, not the latter. Do check out our faqs on general knowledge as well as places to stargaze.

Im a beginner too! Learning as I go along! This forum is helpful and lots of good advice you can take with you as you read both new and old post and questions. Surf around and even though it may not be related to what your looking for, it will surely give you more knowledge as you go deeper into stargazing! This and the world wide web....lots to learn and see. Especially with the very often cloudy singapore skies!...![[smilie=hate.gif]](./images/smilies/hate.gif "hate")
But even when it's mildly cloudy, I still set up my scope and experiment to understand my toys more. Mostly to just have fun trying!

hi am a newbie too!
can we observe the orion nebulae and andromeda galaxy with a 4 inch tele?
like see the gas clouds of the orion nebulae and the spiral shape of andromeda?
btw how does light pollution occur?
isit the light from the stars are diffused by the light from street lamps?
so even with a large telescope we wont be able to see the milky way in sg due to light pollution?

Hi,
Andromeda galaxy can be seen as a hazy patch using naked eye if the sky is very clear and you are at a dark site in Singapore. Using a 4" telescope, you won't be able to see spiral arms in Singapore... you usually only see the core of the galaxy.

Orion Nebula is the easiest nebula you can observe in Singapore. You can see it as a hazy patch of light using naked eye and can see the shape with basically telescope of any size.astronoob wrote:hi am a newbie too!

Andromeda galaxy can be seen as a hazy patch using naked eye if the sky is very clear and you are at a dark site in Singapore. Using a 4" telescope, you won't be able to see spiral arms in Singapore... you usually only see the core of the galaxy.
Light pollution is caused by air particles reflecting the light from those unshielded lighting... such as building lighting and IMHO, the road lighting is basically the main source of light pollution in Singapore... that's why the light pollution and low cloud at night look reddish/orangish due to the low clouds and air particles reflecting the orangish road light.astronoob wrote:btw how does light pollution occur?
Milky way is very big, so you can't use a telescope to see it... bino and naked eye is the best way to see it. Anyway, although you can image the spiral arms of M51 in Singapore, you also can't see the spiral arms using modest size telescope. Basically, you can only see the core of the 2 galaxy of M51 as two very small patch of light.
