is there a group observation thingee?

Alright, this is for sharing of your observation experience. Or, if you are arranging gatherings, star-gazing expeditions or just want some company to go observing together, you can shout it out here.

Post by shoelevy »

hey guys...i'm sure many of u will agree that for amatuers....it's very helpful to observe as a group and share various experiences.
the problem is i haven't been able to find such a group.

i heard from a member called david that some members of singastro go out regularly to observe together.
can anyone tell me where to find such a group?

Hi!

I'm sure there are very many people willing to observe together in your area. All you have to do is ask around.

As for Singastro members, the usual spots I know of are Dempsey rd, Tampines and Toa Payoh. There are people out with telescopes on most clear nights. Sometimes they will post in this section to ask if anyone wants to join them. Look out for such announcements by checking Singastro.

When a particular clear night is available, CSN might be activated. The Clear Skies Network is a database of handphone numbers. An SMS will be sent out if CSN is activated. Please contact Chee Chien (ACC) to be on the list.

Other than that, should there be any interesting astronomical phenomena, such as the recent total lunar eclipse, rest assured that there are people organising observations. Just keep a lookout here for the information.

Cheers.

Hey shoelevy,

Yup, a small gang of us do obseve at Toa Payoh when the skies are clear. Not necessarily just on weekends. For planetary observing and simple public education, we set up in the area in front of the library. If we want to do a little more serious observing (hunting for deep sky stuff), we would go to the park.

Hi all,
yes...the main areas of activity is Toa Payoh Central (PIC Samuel), SP Stadium (PIC Sam Lee/Remus), Dempsey (PIC Chee Chien) and Tampines (PIC Wei Xing). There used to be one at queensway but unfortunately, the PIC Charlie is now doing NS...
For a list of people in your area who are on the obs list, check out the old singastro@yahoogroups. ..
