can a fork-mounted OTA be mounted on a cg5 mount?

Here is the place to talk about all those equipment(Telescope, Mounts, Eyepieces, etc...) you have. Not sure which scope/eyepiece is best for you? Trash it out here!

Hi,
From what I known, it is possible. Ask richard low(rlow), his C8 is initially on a fork mount, now it on an EQ mount.

But I'm not quite sure if the C8 is on a GOTO fork mount, such as a NexStar 8i. Anyway, as long as you can detach the OTA from the fork mount, it can be mount on a CG5 mount via a tube ring.

Have a nice day.

Hi,
Yes. The tube ring will hold your C8 OTA and mount it on the CG5 mount like your celestron EQ80 firstscope.

Have a nice day.

Hi,
You can check with samuel ng whether he got a tube ring that can fit the C8, but you must first give him the external diameter of the C8. Or you can PM richard low(rlow) to ask him where he get his tube ring.

Have a nice day.

Hi shoelevy,

The DC8 is 4" wide. There's a smaller 2.5" wide dovetail, the GM 8 CM8 : Mounting plate for Celestron 8" or Meade 8" on a GM8 Mount - http://www.losmandy.com/access.html (I believe both CG5 and GM8 mount have the same saddle plate size).

If in doubt, you can confirm with scott losmandy directly at scott@losmandy.com

cheers,
Arief
