i should know most of the a. astronomers around here already, but just in case there's someone from my neck of the wood lurking on singastro.... so here's some news from the jungle...
the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) is collaborating with amateur/not-so-amateur astronomers in malaysia to bring astronomy to a rural school in Kundasang on Mt. Kinabalu.
anyone in or around the area who can bring a scope or two, or simply show up to lend support, are most welcome to join us. you'll get a chance to see/hear one famous malaysian astronomy personality tells about the heavens & stars in malay and english...

obviously the further up one goes, the better, and colder... and for obs, it's possible to go quite a bit further up even by car...
i've dreamt of building an obs up there some where...
there are plenty of accommodation options in kundasang. we've booked into a small hotel right next door to the school... after the official obs session those who are still up to it and those who are keen to take widefield star shots can drive (i'll drive) up to the higher spot for a really cold night out...Tachyon wrote:So we sleep in the school?
