Hi all

Post by Evan »

Hi all, was mesmerized with the night sky when i set foot in Lake Khovsgol, Mongolia. Unfortunately i did not have any decent equipment/expertise to capture that beautiful sight in greater detail.

Nevertheless, here I am and hopefully you guys can guide me along. For starters, I just ordered a skyscout to shorten that steep learning curve and try and figure out what is shining above me right now.

Hi & welcome!

Come join us for the sidewalk event this Friday.

Talking about Skyscout, I found out about a equivalent iPhone app from Sarjeet. Maybe he would care to elaborate.

Welcome. U are certainly lucky to experience the night sky from such an exotic and remote (sounding) location. I am sure the view even with your naked eyes must have been jaw dropping. I remember being awe struck when I first saw the Milky Way up in Cameron Highlands in 1982 when I was 16.

The Sky Scout indeed will jump start your learning curve. Enjoy your stay in this forum. Reading all the various posts here will help you in the meantime and shoot away any questions you may have.

Indeed, if you had not bought the Sky Scout, I would have recommended you the Star Walk iPhone app which cost US$4.99 only.

Totally remote and perfectly dark. Will want to go back soon, hopefully armed with a better camera (and skills)....and the skyscout (unfortunately it is on it's way and i'm one of those who do not own anything from Apple).

Android phones have a free planetarium program. It's pretty neat!
