What to bring to Mersing?

Post by chrisyeo »

Hi,

This will be my first time up to Mersing. I'd just like to ask the 'old timers' some advice as to what to bring besides snacks, repellant and warm clothes.

Thank you very much!

Remember to bring a jacket/windbreaker too. It can get really cold in the early hours of the morning sometimes !

The grass at the observing site is short and spiky; makes sitting/sleeping on your groundsheet a prickly affair. Usually I spread a layer or two of newspapers below the groundsheet. More comfortable this way and your ground sheet wouldn't get dirty from the dried, powdery dung that is prevalent all over the field. :)

A flask of hot water in a well insulated jug and some instant coffee would be nice else you would end up in a horizontal position by 3am.
Don't forget the tidbits. Its not like you can pop by 7-11 when you are hungry.
Bring Batteries too! My camera ran out and no one had extras..!
For ground sheets, bring fabric/canvas types rather than plastic ones. the latter tend to collect dew. If you bring that cocktail chair for your etx90, be sure to bring a plastic bag to wrap it in when not in use.
To double protect , bring mosquito coils and lighter to light them
