Obs session at ECP on 28/05/10?
Obs session at ECP on 28/05/10?
As most ppl may have realised that this coming friday (vesak Day) is going to be a public holiday, so it is going to be a long weekend, so anyone interested in having an overnight observation at the ECP (open field at carpark C4/D1)? I know it is going to be full moon by then, but considering that the weather has more or less been less rainy, might be a good chance to collect some photons in those light buckets.
Am new to astronomy and just bought a Celestron Astromaster 130... been using it from my house and have not got a chance to take it out... would love to bring it to ECP if you guys are coming down this Friday evening to ECP.... My kid is also excited about the new scope and would like to explore more than what we can see from our home... Do let me know the exact location on ECP if you guys planning to go there this Friday...
Cheers....

Is any member planning/likely to get a refractor for this ob session? I am trying to decide on whether to go for a refractor or Newt as my 1st scope. I have had a chance to watch from a Newtonian during the last MB session. For comparison, I would love to observe through a refractor, if there is a chance.
Hi Ajit. May I know where you bought it from and how much did you pay for it? If you feel this info is a bit sensitive, you can PM me also.ajitbm wrote:Am new to astronomy and just bought a Celestron Astromaster 130... been using it from my house and have not got a chance to take it out... would love to bring it to ECP if you guys are coming down this Friday evening to ECP.... Hi Bharat, Good to hear that you are enjoying yourself and coping well with the pursuit of this new hobby of astronomy. It is great that you have surveyed the different optical systems available in telescope designs before deciding on which equipment you need. I was too intending on testing out some new equipments that I have boguth recently, however, it is not a refractor. But no worries to that as if this session arouse more interest amongst other forummites; I won't be surprised if other might appear with a refractor (achro/apo), considering refractors are well regarded for their simple yet robust layouts.
Hi Ajit, good to hear that you have bought a new reflector. As for the location of the observation site, this is the directions I got from another thread,
"This site is located between Car Park C4 and D1 of East Coast Park. In between these two carpark locations is an overhead bridge connecting to the opposite inland side of the expressway near Victoria Junior College and Katong Convent School. There is also a bus stop opposite each of the carparks with Bus Service 401. This bus service heading towards the west direction arrives with the following times on Saturday:
1742, 1808, 1835, 1857, 1919, 1939, 1959, 2017, 2037, 2057, 2114, 2134, 2154, 2214hrs (times are approximate). Basically the last bus leaves at 2214hrs. Those coming by car can park at either C4 or D1, head towards the shoreline, and you will be able to see the site. Additionally, the inland direction from the perspective of the site will meet a big canal. Those coming by public transport can also take buses that arrive at VJC. Moreover, do note that there are two restrooms nearby and several pavillions for shelter just in case of sudden bad weather."

lol....yah...T-loan?? haha!
Unless those wishing to have a look-see are around the east, are always welcome to pop-over my place to see-see.
Anyway...will confirm if I can make it Friday night, pending a short visit from a friend that evening. Will check this thread for updates and let you guys know if I'm heading down.
-fizzy123 : could you PM me your cell? If I can make it will call u.
Perhaps I could still pack the scope into my little guitar bag and use on of the mounts set up there for the benefit of Gary and bharat.
Will confirm...regards!
