Hi Remus,
For those making their way on their own, can I check what do you do with the equipment list you compiled? I understand we may be asked to pay tax on the item if not managed correctly. Do we declare this item at the custom and declare again on return?
Thanks
customs tax for bringing scopes into m'sia?

For those going on your own, do not declare and hope u wont' be checked.
However, if they do see ur scope, they MAY ask for a 20% customs tax, which will be refunded when you leave m'sai. So far only paid once out of more than 10 trips. And I declared a value of Rm800 for the Portaball...
Really looking forward to the trip and cheers to the organisers! Any chance of a preview of the equipment list here?

I found out from Michael that its better that you have your equipment declared before-hand on a piece of paper. If they do ask, to show it. If not, just proceed. The last time I went, the customs officer wanted to tax me but fortunately, a friend who can speak malay talked to the customs officer and he let us off.acc wrote:For those going on your own, do not declare and hope u wont' be checked.

BTW, CC, how did you ask for the money back? It is at the customs on the way back to singapore? From what you say, it means I have to bring along more money.....sigh..

Ya a friend who was taxed got the money back at the causeway juz before coming back to Singapore.
And recalling back, I was eventually not taxed by the officer. he let me off after a pit of persuasion.
For personal trips, I won't bother to declare on a piece of paper at all. Who to certify it for you and what's the point of showing it after the scope has been seen?
