Here is the place to talk about all those equipment(Telescope, Mounts, Eyepieces, etc...) you have. Not sure which scope/eyepiece is best for you? Trash it out here!

Motor Drive for Vixen Porta Mount?

Post by Gary »

I am trying to get a motor drive for my porta mount. Found this JMI micro-slewing DC drive.

Any comments/review/experience on this drive? Are there better motor drive alternatives?

Just sent an email to Joo Beng. Waiting for his reply.

not much use..it's more of a gimmick..cause the slewing is not computer controlled, the mount will not be able to "follow" the celestial object.

if u really want a tracking alt az, get an ioptron

Hi,
Yap... there is no simple tracking motor drive for Alt-Az mount. If you want tracking for Alt-Az mount, it need to be a GOTO (computerised) Alt-Az mount... unless you are at the north or south pole.

Have a nice day.
