Faint milky way in Singapore using stock lens

The sky was clear on the weekends, and despite being demoralised after 3 consecutive days of clouds in Batam, I went up on my rooftop, pointed my olympus e620 with stock lens up at the zenith and this was what I got.

No tracking mount used, just tripod. Took 15 exposures of 20 sec then stacked via DSS. (I know, the filter in the DSLRs caused the emission to turn blue and the stock lens is not apo)

What I took that night proofs that Singapore is not such a hostile place for astrophotographers after all.



FYI, the constellation at the bottom is scorpius. Is the faint glow in the center the milky way or is it just me?

Yes stacking does do wonders! You also proved that astrophotography isn't about big scopes and expensive CCD's, autoguiding, filters, cables, tracking, etc,etc.

I do believe there is much more that can be done in good ole SG! It's all about trying, planning and being there when it's time! Opportunities are there...we just gotta find it!
