Astrophotography though night vision

Post by vivid »

Hi guys,

Anybody did anything like that here? I'd believe you need at least gen 2 to get decent stuff.

Unfortunately SG has a slight restriction on the sale/possession of gen 3 and 4.

Any links to any good overseas sites?

Cheers.

It is possible to smuggle gen 3 and 4, just don't get caught. Same for 50mv lasers.

But night vision not recommended. It may amp up the signal from the light pollution instead.

Personally, I don't see anything appealing with night vision astrophotography, as you lose all the characteristic color that make astrophotographs beautiful.

Yeah, they are saying that you use the usual filters and cut down on the light pollution.... so the object goes dimmer as well, but the NV will bring that out. Also good for visual for the really dim stuff, esp for us where really big scopes are not possible. With stuff like BIPH you also get to use both eyes to scan.

I guess for us people with normal pockets, is the $$$ factor to try. LOL!
Not cheap man... I remember me goggling for it about 10 years ago and the gen 1/2 also ard the same price!

Apparently some companies think that users would bear the responsibility in using a 1W laser correctly.

i have a gen 1 or rather one between gen 1 and 2. i believe gen 2 and above is already considered controlled item in singapore. I did managed to see M6 M7 and M31 here tru it visually as a fuzzy patch. but its resolution is just too crappy~~

Take it apart, they can never tell. But 1 W laser is like a lightsaber already lol. Can bring for star wars cosplay...

There are some videos on youtube of ppl setting fire to stuff using a 80mv laser. I don't think you would like to use a 1W laser in public.

Heh heh...actually the casio projector lasers look like they have a lot of divergence (for therir use in the projector). Need collimation with additional optics.

I have a 125mW Nd:YAG greenie purchased some 5 years ago, already too bright indoors, shine it at a white wall 5m away and its too bright to look at the reflected light. Never do it on any reflective surfaces like shiny plastics/metal unless you are looking away. 1W you'd beed protective glasses without a black matt termination. Useless.

You can shine the 125mW at the ceiling and the reflected light is something as bright as my 3W LED shining on the ceiling too. (never used my dSLR to measure the exposure though)
