CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!
Thanks. I tried longer exposure of 5 mins but get a completely over-exposed pic. Even at 2 mins, there is some over-exposure. Are there any tweakings that can be done to have long exposure but still get good subs? Will like to learn from your experience.
Hi Chris, 5 to 8 mins for Halpha should be ok, and 2 to 3 mins for RGB is reasonable, longer than that, and the air glow will overwhelms them. The subs may appear over exposed on the monitor, but check on the histogram, they should be ok. Under our light polluted sky, the best chance to get good details on your images are with the narrowband filters.
I took the same object last year with a similar set up like yours, you can check out this thread: http://www.singastro.org/viewtopic.php? ... ht=messier

Thanks for the very useful advice. Will try it out and pay attention to the histogram like you said. Checked out your thread and wow wee!, your pic of the lagoon is so much better - you are the master.
Can I also ask? Is it worth getting a OIII and SII filter or will it be better to get a good set of LRGB filters like Hutech's IDAS LRGBC Type 4 filters (http://www.optcorp.com/product.aspx?pid ... -860-10082)? I am now using Meade's red, green and blue filters that come with the DSI.

If you are really into it, investing a good sets of filters is definitely a good idea, and can't go wrong with Hutech's filters.
