Picture of new solar crack filament, from astro convention

Post by Chris »

Hey all,

Amidst the hustle and bustle encountered by the OT of the Astro convention yesterday, I managed to sneak the humble PST for solar obbing out onto the 4th floor and discovered to my astonishment a filament across the sun! You guys should see that man, but I think you would rather stay on the roof top after that. It is amazing what the PST can do. Only managed to snap a few good frames before the constant heat forced me back into air-conditioned evironment.

I managed to use my DSLR to do some prime focus photog of it. (also used a 2x barlow lens). PST mounted on alt azi tripod only.

Hi,Gary
Good work pal.Yes,that filaments-both are approx 20+ earth diameter long and had persisted for at least 3 days.Interesting right.Thats what solar obs can offer--a ever changing view, plus lots of unexpected changes.
