False color imaging

Post by mch3898 »

Tried doing a LRGB imaging of the eagle nebula but not too successful. Image came out with too many halos and I suspect that aligning so many stacks of images takes more practice.

Came across this article about false color narrowband imaging and tried it. Only need HA and OIII. HA is the red channel, OIII the blue channel and a combination of the HA/OIII for the pseudo green channel. Effectively only combining 2 images. The following is a result of the eagle nebula taken on 2 Aug. Both the HA and OIII are 5-mins subs. Taken with WO90, guided with PHD.

Nice effort! If you turn it upside down, it also looks like a Bald Eagle :)
Zoom a little and capture the Pillars of Creation too (or what I would call "The Buddha's Palm, after that famous 60s HK movie classic ) [smilie=cute.gif]
