Yeah the F1 track during the week building up to the weekend race...will be lit up for testing and road prep. I'll be there again this year...hehe! Bright as hell!!! (is Hell bright???)
But shouldn't be effecting us that much way at the barrage end which is pretty much away from sight. I'd be more worried from the added pollution from the Marina Bay Sands, Flyer, CBD buildings and what the whole area holds for Singapore in the near future!!
Last time we had an Island wide Blackout with the Substation failure was years and years ago...i was probably 6-7yrs old at that time. I remember cos I wanted to play 20c amusement games at Katong TBG. But when got there nothing working!!!! so...as a child...cry lah!!!
Doubt anymore such blackouts not with all the back-ups in place!! sigh!! Soon ubin will be full of lights and people just walking aimlessly!
But what the HEck! Lets do it as planned...the more we can educate...the more word gets spread!!

If its a bit hazy (PM10 > 30 PSI for southern part), I don't think can do any ob even if you are obbing South direction away from the CBD. Coz really from what I saw from Chinatown since 2 years ago.... bright as @#$@#% hell even at the zenith.
Actually can hear the engine sound from Chinatown as well. I'll see if I can take a pix from my Tg Pagar place when they set it up and blast the lights.
This year don't know got free tickets or not. Was at Conaught Grandstand last year, but second day qualifying got wedding to take.

Hi,
I was informed that there will be a kite flying festival held at Marina on that day, so might not be possible to held it there.
Anyway, NPark had offer us 2 location to held the session: Bedok and Lower Seletar reservoir parks.
Any suggestion??
Have a nice day.

Let's have it at either of the reservoir parks as there will be too much mayhem from the kite festival at the MB which lasts till 8pm. Suggest we confirm the location once NParks reply to your email on car park access for the sites that they had suggested.

Bedok reservoir park is more accessible I think but its definitely brighter as its abutted by Tampines and Bedok.
Lower Seletar park is darker as it looks out onto the BT Nature Reserve and is a small distance away from the main bulk of AMK and Thomson. There's buses but its less accessible

DON'T PANIC
I think this will be a good opportunity to demonstrate to the NPark staff that their parks can be used for astro-applications. We can convince and provide meaningful advice to the officer on how to make the parks more astro friendly.
Bedok reservoir is still usable for astro, if you observe at the gentle slope by the hill infront of sheng shiong. It will be good if they off some of the lights along the gravel path

Hi,
After some discussion, the venue will be at Bedok Reservoir Park and time will be from 20:30 to 23:30. The exact location in the park will confirm later as I plan to do a site survey with NPark people and to discuss which lighting can be turn off during the event.
I'll need an indication of number of scopes coming, so that I can estimate the area required. Please post here if you are coming and what equipment you'll bring:
1) Weixing - Vixen R200SS on Alt-Az mount (if no transport)/GPDX mount (if can find transport).
Have a nice day.

I'll be there if the skies are clear(ish).
Stuart - I'm in RV now and can give you a lift if you like (although you'll probably need to get a cab home as I need to be up early on Sunday).
Acc - you too if you're not driving.
