*******************************************************

Looking for telescope volunteers who are interested to participate in the event manning their telescope. Because it is quite a last minute thing, AGastro and MPastro have already committed to their Mooncake related events. So I do not wish to request their help at the expense of stressing out their resources.

The event is a paid event ($2 for lantern or mooncake) for the RC residents BUT there will be telescope queue(s) open to the public for free.

I already have a 3 confirmed telescope volunteers. If we can have more telescope volunteers, I can proposal a more ambitious setup. :)

Only looking at Moon or Jupiter for each telescope. The RC members will take care of the crowd control.

The Minister *MAY* look through the telescope. The Media is also invited to attend the event.

Will be attending a meeting tomorrow evening to confirm the details and update this thread accordingly.

If you have interest to volunteer, please reply to this thread or PM me with your mobile number and scope details and if you need power supply.

If Singastro members would like to stay after 10 pm. We can have a mini informal gathering and I can bring you guys around Toa Payoh for makan sessions. :)

Thanks!

Hi Friends. This is the update of the upcoming event. Would be glad if all the scopes from last weekend Bedok can grace this event too! And those who fell sick and recover in time and bring the scopes this Saturday! Free ice kachang for all telescope volunteers! Two 24 hours eateries within 50m from ob spot. :)

That's a nice idea Gary, re-igniting the interest in Toa Payoh. I can't make it on that night though, so enjoy yourselves! [smilie=cute.gif]

Hi,
Please note that the Moonrise timing for this Saturday will be at 20:16 and it might took sometime before it's visible (depend on the site east view obstruction), so you might want to plan for alternate target during this period of time.

Have a nice day.

Wxg has a good point. We used to observe at the open space between the amphitheatre and blk 179, less obstruction.

@Airconvent: Thanks for the encouragement! The pioneers of Toa Payoh area have done a great job - zong yao, clifford, samuel, rlow ... etc. Hopefully this re-ignition will start a flame that will burn strongly. :)

@Weixing: Yes. We are aware. The plan is to observe Jupiter first followed by Moon later. That's why the poster is deliberately designed to be generic without emphasising on Moon and is a separate poster instead of combining it with the Mooncake poster. Interestingly, from the ob spot location, Moon and Jupiter only needs to rise above 6 degrees to be visible. So will you be coming that day? :)

@Rlow: I think that is the same spot we are talking about! Will the residents of Toa Payoh have the fortune of looking through your Yellow Submarine this Saturday? :)
