I took this scope to Punggai last Friday night. The losmandy G11 mount is already a very massive mount , but when mounted with this hoge monster , it looks like time to do another upgrade of the mount.

Is really a big disappointment that the weather is bad for the two nights.
At least we are being given an astro talk by Mr Au...........................

Anyway, the Istar 8" refractor is kept in Punggai , to save the trouble to bring in and out, as well as dismantle and assemble the unit.
So if you want to see it in action again, join the coming November Punggai trip.

The long scope looks like this famous WWII gun and 88 makes it easy to remember the focal ratio of the scope - F/8.8.

My second choice is Panzer Tiger (Tee-gah) because of the similarity of the muzzle break of the main gun of the tank with the front end of the scope. :)

Off-topic : Is the Tiger a Tamiya? I saw one previously on sale at the Tamiya distributor along Paya lebar. It runs like the real thing, and even recoils and smokes when it "fires". All these are extras. The basic model cost S$8K without the extras to make it real cool! In anycase hope to be able to see and try out the scope in the flesh soon. [smilie=cute.gif]
