Feeling discouraged...

CCD vs Film? Lots of time vs no patience? Alright, this is your place to discuss all the astrophotography what's and what's not. You can discuss about techniques, accessories, cameras, whatever....just make sure you also post some nice photos here too!

Orly, I can attest to that, I am an owner of 5D Mark II with 3 L lenses. One of which is almost as expensive as my camera!

But I can say that top quality astro products can beat any photographic product hands down. I think, astro products have the highest total cost of ownership if you are using high end stuff. Imagine Paramount ME with Officina Stellare RCs and throw in a couple of Televue refractors for guiding and eyepieces or maybe the monster Dob from Orion?

Frankly, a part of me was regretting going into this hobby, but the good part of me was very happy, even though it meant an emptier wallet every month, but it was a childhood dream come true! Well, I am the sort of person who chases dreams. ;)

@andeelym, well the really expensive telescope stuff is physically substantial. so it's not something that any apartment-dweller can get into (no place to put it!) but camera gear is disturbingly easy to get a hold of (and therefore easier to spend on, hahaha!)

@Orly, ya imagine the look on visitors' faces if they step into the living room to see a paramount with an Officina Stellare Pro RC 360 LT.

Ditto to the cam gear availability. But for now, my funds are being channeled into astro stuff. Trying my best to look away from photographic stuff but I must say that is tough...

You did very well with your landscape astrophotography. Your pictures are nothing to be shameful about . Google TWAN and see you have plenty of friends. Defer DSO astophotography until you have the gear, gone to the gymn and have a body like remus...haha.

cheers

Thanks guys for the encouragement :)
Yeah, I was getting a bit depressed what with all the advice that my stuff would never make it for astrophoto...
Orly --> No single piece of equipment is as expensive as my astrophoto system :) Actually it rivals the cost of my whole photographic system, 70-200VR2 lens included! (I tend to get them at good prices from the retailers, never at MSRP, if I may say so myself :) )
Mymoon --> I'd love to do landscape but locally the trouble is locally the gradients are extremely difficult to work with. Those shots were done in New Zealand with the help of a very understanding wife :)

Yeah, don't be discourage, in fact i can see that you have pretty good equipments, make good use of them. Imaging at f/10, 2000mm can be quite challenging but doable, but this is definitely an excellent planetary scope, put on a simple webcam and very soon you will churn out nice planetary images. Having said that, i did some ap with a similar setup a couple of years ago, not great images, but certainly doable, here is the link:

speaking of gradient come to Malaysia just north of Singapore lah

Singapore do have good places too I believe for wide angle astrophotography. You can use light pollution as part of the prop.
